You're the same kind of bad as me.

Hi lovelies, how was your weekend? I had a really fun few days involving a swamp-themed birthday party and my brother's 18th birthday, but I have a definite case of blues from coming back down to reality! Last night we won the pub quiz which involved a certain amount of tequila shots and I would definitely prefer not to be starting my second job today, but there we have it.

Necklace - Koa Jewellery
T-shirt - (local gig)
Socks - eBay
Dr Martens - Cloggs

I look fairly awkward in these photos, and my hair's awful which I do apologise for but I have to blame a lack of sleep for all that - I didn't get into bed until well after 4am as I was putting my very drunk brother to bed (he was hilarious and had a great night, but I did feel somewhat responsible and took all possible measures to ensure he didn't wake up to a horrid hangover to ruin the rest of his birthday!) This outfit came about because I had a few separate things I wanted to wear and figured I'd just wear them all at the same time, basically. That includes my cheap eBay striped socks (one day I really need to buy the genuine thigh-highs from American Apparel but how expensive?!) and a T-shirt from a pretty awesome local band which I adore for the awesome illustration and the fact that it says 'Shithouse' - there's nothing better than a decent, slightly obnoxious graphic T-shirt. For £6 at the gig it was a bargain. Combine that with my beautiful new garter from Custard and Berries (I sense a new addiction coming on) and my new favourite necklace, it just felt right to throw all of this together and top it off with some DMs. If it's a mess, at least it's a comfy, all-black mess (that says 'Shithouse' for good measure.) Find this outfit on Lookbook here.

Today all I really want to do is lie in bed and listen to '... Like Clockwork' by Queens of the Stone Age but unfortunately I can't so I'd better get moving. Hope you have a great week, guys.

Lost in the dark, she's got a heavy heart.

Hey dolls, it feels like an age since I last posted. This week I've been keeping very busy with getting illustration commission work done, and preparing for Father's Day/my brother's 18th birthday/the second job I'll be starting on Monday. Can you say hectic?! I'm hoping I'll be able to grab some outfit posts from over the weekend (tonight I'll be running home from work to Daisy Duke myself up for a themed party and head back out) but we shall see! However, today I wanted to share with you some illustrations I made for the pre-release of the Evelyn Knightley book 'I Haven't Lived At All' - I hope you like them.

Poster available here.
Postcard set available here.

I'm always eager to experiment with different styles and ways of working so these aren't necessarily my typical illustration style but I hope you like them nonetheless! Last night some gift packages were added to the Evelyn Knightley store which means you pre-order the book in a bundle with some postcards and a poster and a handwritten copy of a poem which is a lovely touch; you can check them out here.

What have you got planned for your weekend? Hands up, who's off to do some last-minute Father's Day shopping?

Don't come the cowboy with me.

Hi lovelies, today I have a wishlist post to share. My current clothing lust-haves are only partially influenced by a friend's decision to have a swamp-themed birthday party this Saturday. Supposedly the dress code is essentially to dress like the cast of 'My Name Is Earl' but my brother and his girlfriend have decided to go all out Voodoo-themed and are dressing as Baron Samedi so who knows?! Either way, I am longing for light denim and (probably for the first and last time in my life) cowboy boots. Do feel free to comment on your feelings about cowboy boots and whether they should be worn with pride or wiped out of existence: they do provoke mixed reactions...

  1. J Brand Jeans - these are the perfect light denim jeans with a slightly worn-in look, and would be such a versatile addition to any wardrobe: find these at Harvey Nichols.
  2. Tie Check Shirt - I'm thinking my costume is going to be Daisy Duke-inspired, making this River Island shirt entirely appropriate.
  3. Red Check Shirt - Topshop strikes again. This shirt would be good layered up in the winter as well.
  4. Ragged Priest Shorts - Seriously, the things I would do to own these shorts from The Ragged Priest. Daisy Duke would have spikes on her hotpants, right?!
  5. Vintage Denim Shorts - okay, these are probably the safer bet. And they are still cute.. just not as spiky as I might like.
  6. Belt - I need a decent dupe for this belt as it's sold out in my size and I really want it.
  7. Rocket Dog Satire Boots - this isn't the first time I've posted these as I think they're so cute.. and would be undeniably perfect for this particular occasion.
  8. Bandana - I love a good bandana, either in the hair or around the wrist.
  9. Barratts Boots - these are probably a slightly more wearable alternative to full-on cowboy boots.
  10. Daisy Garter - just because I really do need this in my life.
Ooh: also, in other news, I recently drew the logo for awesome headdress company Kind Art Coronets and as a thank you they're sending me one of their a-mazing headdresses so stay tuned!

What have you got planned for your week? I've got quite a lot of illustration work which will keep me busy, and lots of planning for a weekend full of birthdays and Father's Day... busy times!

I woke up near the sea, sand in my dreams.

I have mentioned before about losing my beloved amber necklace that I wore all the time, every day for years. Since then I've been making do with a small jade cross that I acquired at the Love event last November but it's just not quite the same. Most of my costume jewellery consists of either chokers or long necklaces that I could layer with my heart necklace, and I just feel any outfit is incomplete without a delicate silver chain around my neck. Luckily, I then came across Koa Jewellery: ethical, handmade, beautiful jewellery inspired by the Cornish coastline and locally sourced, and I couldn't miss the opportunity to own one of these beautiful items of handcrafted jewellery. Here are the necklaces that I chose:

I couldn't resist the urge to photograph these outside given the glorious weather we've had lately, and it seemed particularly fitting for this jewellery brand. Some people might think the word 'ethical' would imply very bohemian, hippie-looking jewellery but the words I'd use to describe the Koa collection would be graphic, sleek and minimalist. I love the nature-inspired accents in the silver detailing and the subtle additions of colour in the resin. Even the packaging is sleek and pretty, and to fit every blogger cliche nice packaging is always a bonus in my opinion!
I like the contrast between the square frame and blue of the bird necklace and the round frame and red of the heart necklace: having both means I have a necklace to suit almost anything I wear. The chain and clasp are lovely and sturdy and you can adjust the length of the chain which is always handy.

You will soon be seeing these necklaces featured in numerous outfit posts, but I just couldn't wait to share them until then. What do you think of my new jewellery? Have you bought anything from Koa Jewellery before, or would you? I'm eyeing up their range of cufflinks for Father's Day...

You wave at the sky with wide, lovely eyes.

Hi lovelies, hasn't it been a gorgeous week? I've been out having lots of fun in the sun with some rather lovely people, I can never get enough sunshine and I always feel sad to be inside and waste the weather as we get it so rarely. However, today I wanted to write a long overdue post about the Emotional Brilliance range at Lush, of which I have a growing collection: I really can't get enough of it! The colours in the range are all named to do with psychology of colour and how people respond to colours and what that colour means to them: there's a game on the Lush site where you pick out colours that stand out to you and it can tell you about your personality or your needs: it's an interesting concept and worth checking out. Personally, all the colours I'm drawn to have names that strike a chord with my personality, ambitions and desires, maybe that's just me - let me know if you try the game and if it's accurate!

Lush Emotional Brilliance Makeup:
The lip colours I own from the Emotional Brilliance range are Power, Believe and Ambition. Power and Ambition are very similar in tone but Power has a golden shimmer through it as opposed to the block red Ambition (my own personal preference.) Believe is listed on the website as a raspberry-pink but I'd say it has a coral tone to it which I adore for summer. The lip colours are gorgeously moisturising and intensely pigmented: no matter how dark or pale your skin, the colour payoff is fantastic from the first swipe. I used these lip colours a lot on holiday so I could have a glamorous pout even from the sun lounger: I liked to apply them, and blot them as they work quite well as a lip stain (particularly Ambition) meaning I wouldn't have to reapply.

Then for the eyeliners: the gold and black are particularly fast-drying formulas allowing for a perfect application. I use both of these frequently, I can't believe I've not tried Independent eyeliner sooner as it has become my makeup staple and I would never change back to anything else. Gone are the days of having to set liner with black eyeshadow or worrying about transfer or liner fading throughout the day. I would 100% recommend this product if you are a die-hard black liner fan. Personally, I'm just not ready to go out before I have a flick of black liner but I've loved using Success, Fantasy and Motivation in the corners of my eyes and for drawing on tiny fake lower lashes. I will take some pictures of these soon, it just always feels so silly doing face-of-the-day makeup posts as my makeup is almost always a variation on the same look!

Have you tried the Emotional Brilliance range from Lush, or would you try it from this post?

You like your girls insane.

Hi lovelies, today I have an outfit post that is truer to my personal style than some of the more anomalous posts of late. It's all-black, has overknee socks, and red lipstick. Back to basics, but I hope you like it...

Bag - Bagable
Top - Motel
Skirt - River Island
Hold Ups - M&S
Shoes - Internacionale
This top is from Motel: it's such a flattering shape; I love the tie front and daisy embroidery on the collar. You know how I love my daisies! You can also get 20% off at Motel using my code 'doodleheart' :)
The bag is from Bagable and is such a perfect size for going out or days out where I don't need to carry much. There are inside pockets, a pretty floral lining and I love the stud and bow detailing. I've always liked the look of Nica bags and this one is perfect for me.
These holdups are one of my favourite things and the detailing at the top is so pretty that I always want to show them off but worry that they're a bit too out-there, particularly for day time. (I always feel there's such a stigma about stockings and hold ups being provocative, which I find strange considering you're technically more naked bare-legged...) But my new garter clips from Custard and Berries have made me throw caution to the wind and just try and embrace the underwear-as-outerwear thing. Do you think it's too much? Find this outfit on Lookbook here...

I hope you've had a lovely week enjoying the sunshine. Today I'm off for some drinks as it has, unbelievably, been two years today since we lost a good friend named Chris. His loss has affected so many people and it will be nice today to raise a glass in honour of an amazing man gone too soon but never forgotten.
